The event floor
Two kinds of space. The Causeway meeting rooms take up to 70 guests, set as a boardroom or a hollow square for smaller groups. The private terrace, 220 square metres in the open air, looks over Bourke Street Mall to the GPO clock tower.
Accommodation
273 rooms in standard and premium categories, king or twin, looking over laneways, courtyards or Bourke Street Mall. 92 are double-double rooms, which is what makes it work for groups sharing.
If you need the beds without the ballroom, that is a normal brief and we run it on its own. See group accommodation for how a room block is held, and corporate accommodation for an ongoing rate program.
The rest of the building
Restaurants, bars and public areas.

Where these figures come from, and why a dash is not a zero
A dash means IHG publishes no figure for that setup. It does not mean the room cannot be set that way, only that we will not print a number the venue has not published.
Every figure is read from IHG’s own opening announcement for the hotel, checked 23 September 2026. Never estimated, never taken from a directory.
IHG gives one maximum for the Causeway meeting rooms, up to 70 guests, and a floor area for the terrace. It gives no figure by setup.
The building
Bigger rooms in Melbourne
The Causeway meeting rooms take up to 70 guests, so a plenary of any size moves to a hotel ballroom or the convention centre. Each figure below is read from that venue’s own published material. This is not a survey of the whole Melbourne market, only the rooms we checked to make sure nothing on this page overstates the building.
| Holiday Inn Melbourne Bourke Street Mall, The Causeway | Up to 70 guests |
|---|---|
| Sofitel Melbourne On Collins, Grand Ballroom | 1,000 theatre, 828 banquet |
| Crown Melbourne, Palladium | 2,300 theatre, 1,500 banquet |
| Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Plenary | 5,564 theatre |
Recent changes
Opened September 2025. IHG opened it on 11 September 2025, alongside Hotel Indigo Melbourne Little Collins, as its first dual branded hotel in Australia.
It shares an address with a second hotel. Hotel Indigo Melbourne Little Collins sits in the same complex with its own 179 rooms and a boardroom for twelve. If a proposal quotes event space at this address, it is worth confirming which of the two hotels it belongs to.

Questions organisers ask

Up to 70 guests in the Causeway meeting rooms, which is the one capacity IHG gives. The hotel also has a 220 square metre private terrace for events, looking over Bourke Street Mall to the GPO clock tower.
How many rooms does it have?
273, in standard and premium categories with king and twin configurations. 92 of them are double-double rooms, which suits families and groups sharing.
Where is it?
At 296 Little Collins Street, above Melbourne Walk and on Bourke Street Mall, in the middle of the Melbourne CBD. The airport is 21 kilometres away.
Does it suit a conference?
For a meeting, workshop or training day of up to 70 guests with delegates staying in the building, yes. For a plenary above 70, Sofitel Melbourne On Collins’ Grand Ballroom takes 1,000 theatre, Crown Melbourne’s Palladium 2,300 theatre and the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre’s Plenary 5,564.

Sources, photography and how we work
Capacities read from the venue’s own published material on 23 September 2026. Comparison figures read from each named venue’s own published material on the same date.
We do not see every room on every visit. Where we were not in a room, its figures come from the venue's own chart rather than from us. We do not rate or score venues and we do not publish rates.
Our service is free to you. We are independent of every venue we put forward, no venue is favoured, and your interests come first.
