Melbourne venues we have walked through.
A few of the Melbourne venues we’ve been through ourselves. For each one you’ll find the venue’s own published capacities, the date we were there, and an honest word about what it suits and what it doesn’t.
-
Hotel Indigo Melbourne Little Collins
179 rooms over ten floors in the CBD with one boardroom for twelve. We keep it in mind for delegate rooms rather than for the conference itself.
Inspected by CVBS
-
Holiday Inn Melbourne Bourke Street Mall
An IHG hotel on Bourke Street Mall, opened September 2025. Meeting rooms for up to 70 and a 220 sqm private terrace facing the GPO clock tower.
Inspected by CVBS
-
Hannah St Hotel Melbourne
A 188 room design hotel at Southbank with two conference rooms and a level ten event space, and no published capacity for any of them.
Inspected by CVBS
Melbourne rewards local knowledge. The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre at South Wharf takes the large programs, but the character venues are where Melbourne earns its reputation: laneway spaces, riverside hotels and design-led function rooms that delegates still talk about months later. We know which of them suits your brief, and how to secure it at the right rate.
What we source in Melbourne
- Convention centre space at South Wharf for plenary and exhibition together
- CBD and Southbank conference hotels, and multi property delegate blocks
- Heritage and civic rooms for gala dinners and awards nights
- Stadium and museum spaces for launches and large receptions
- Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula offsites within ninety minutes
A few Melbourne venues, and what each one is really for.
Every figure below is the one the venue publishes for itself. Figures checked 1 October 2026. We source right across Melbourne, so treat this as a starting point.

A quick steer, based on what you are running. Tell us the detail and we will shortlist what suits it, rather than the obvious names.
Based on venue suitability alone.
Where in Melbourne to hold it.
The area you choose shapes everything from how easily delegates arrive to what you will pay for dinner. These are the ones we source across most, and what each is good for.
South Wharf
The only precinct that does a plenary above 1,500 and a trade floor at the same time. Two hotels connect directly into MCEC, so the delegate experience is genuinely campus like.
Southbank
Crown puts the room block, the ballroom and the dinner in one complex, which is the strongest single site block in the city. Riverside walking connection to both South Wharf and the CBD.
CBD grid
Choose it when delegate free time is part of the value. Deep hotel supply at every price point, but no single property holds a large block, and the Metro Tunnel stations opened here in late 2025.
Docklands
Scale and a waterfront setting rather than a hotel one. Marvel Stadium anchors it for launches and very large receptions, with thinner accommodation than the CBD.
East Melbourne
A large single hotel block on the quiet edge of the city, with the MCG and Melbourne Park next door. Unusable in January while the Australian Open runs.
Carlton and Parkville
Character venues and anything with a university, research or cultural association behind it. Almost no hotel supply, so delegates stay in the city and tram across.
The parts of Melbourne we would raise before you commit.
No destination is right for every brief, and the useful conversation is about where the limits are. These are the ones that change a Melbourne program most often.
January and March are difficult months
The Australian Open absorbs city accommodation for three weeks in January and puts the whole Melbourne Park precinct out of contention. The Formula 1 Grand Prix does something similar to March. Both are worth checking against your dates before you fall in love with a venue.
There is no airport rail line yet
Victoria’s own project page puts the first stage of Melbourne Airport Rail at 2030, so every fly in delegate is on a road transfer of roughly half an hour. For a genuine same day in and out meeting we would usually put Sydney or Brisbane in front of you.
One large ballroom is currently out of the market
Grand Hyatt Melbourne’s event floor is listed by the hotel as closed for upgrade works with no reopening date, while the guest rooms operate normally. It is worth knowing if a Collins Street ballroom was on your list from a previous year.
Melbourne is two markets, and most briefs only need one of them.
One brief. A real person on the other end.
Everything above this point is information. It is genuinely useful, and no other venue finder in Australia publishes it. But it is not the thing you are actually buying.
What you are buying is someone who has already had the conversation with the person who holds that room, knows what they will move on and when, and will pick up the phone rather than send you a portal login. Whoever takes your Melbourne brief stays your point of contact from the first call through to the final invoice.

Venues we can speak for
South Wharf and the CBD grid behave completely differently, and the choice between them decides how far delegates walk, what they do at six o’clock and what the accommodation costs. We start there rather than with a list of rooms.
The drawbacks as well as the pitch
Every venue has something worth knowing before you sign. A difficult load in, a low ceiling, a pre function space that struggles once the room is full. You will hear that from us at shortlist, not on the day.
Free to you
There is no fee for our service. The sourcing, the local knowledge and the negotiating are all included, and the rate you end up with is usually better than booking direct.
