Inspected by CVBS
Marriott’s JW resort in Surfers Paradise, built in 1993 and redesigned when it became a JW Marriott, set around a saltwater lagoon pool. A 680 square metre ballroom for 800 theatre that divides in two, 2,000 square metres of event space on one level, and 223 rooms on the same site.
It suits a residential conference, a staged product launch or an incentive group of up to 800 that wants to meet, sleep and eat in one place.
What it suits
Good for
- Residential conferences to 800 theatre with delegates sleeping on site
- Gala dinners to 500 in the JW Grand Ballroom
- Product launches and staged events, with vehicle access and a hoist in the ballroom
- A plenary with breakouts, all on the one conference level
- Poolside receptions to 250 beside the lagoon
Look elsewhere for
- A seated plenary above 800 in one room
- Exhibitions or trade floors that need more than 680 square metres
The event floor
The event rooms sit together on level two. The JW Grand Ballroom takes the plenary or the gala and divides into two rooms of 400 theatre. The Tamborine Gallery takes 220 theatre in natural light, Springbrook, Binna Burra and Beechmont take the breakouts, and the poolside, the pool pavilion and the lagoon terrace take receptions outdoors.
Accommodation
223 rooms and suites, split between hinterland and ocean outlooks, with balconies and floor to ceiling windows. Rooms run from 42 square metres, and the 23 suites run up to 133.
If you need the beds without the ballroom, that is a normal brief and we run it on its own. See group accommodation for how a room block is held, and corporate accommodation for an ongoing rate program.

Where these figures come from, and why a dash is not a zero
A dash means Marriott publishes no figure for that setup. It does not mean the room cannot be set that way, only that we will not print a number the venue has not published.
Every figure is read from the resort’s own meeting planner guide and capacity chart, checked 24 September 2026. Never estimated, never taken from a directory.
Marriott’s hotel page lists 238 rooms and suites and ten event spaces, while the resort’s meeting planner guide gives 223 and eleven. The page follows the guide.

Bigger rooms in Gold Coast
The JW Grand Ballroom tops out at 800 theatre, so a larger plenary on the Gold Coast moves to one of the rooms below. The figures below were read on 24 September 2026. Each figure below is read from that venue’s own published material. This is not a survey of the whole Gold Coast market, only the rooms we checked to make sure nothing on this page overstates the building.

Sources, photography and how we work
Capacities read from the venue’s own published material on 24 September 2026. Comparison figures read from each named venue’s own published material on the same date.
We do not see every room on every visit. Where we were not in a room, its figures come from the venue's own chart rather than from us. We do not rate or score venues and we do not publish rates.
Our service is free to you. We are independent of every venue we put forward, no venue is favoured, and your interests come first.
