InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach

Hotel242 Arden Street, Coogee NSW 2034

  • 260Banquet
  • 7Event spaces
  • 198Rooms

Inspected by CVBS

The former Crowne Plaza Coogee Beach on Arden Street, refurbished and reopened as an InterContinental from December 2025. A pillar free ballroom for 300 theatre, seven event spaces and 198 rooms, across the road from the beach.

It suits a board, a sales meeting or an incentive group that wants the ocean rather than the CBD and still needs a ballroom and rooms under one roof.

What it suits

Good for

  • Conferences and sales meetings to 300 theatre with rooms in the same building
  • Dinners and awards nights to 260 in the Grand Ballroom
  • Board meetings and offsites for eight in Wylie’s Boardroom or Malabar
  • Incentive groups wanting a beachfront hotel inside Sydney

Look elsewhere for

  • A plenary above 300 in one room
  • Exhibitions or trade floors
  • Programs that need to walk to CBD offices between sessions

The event floor

Six of the seven event spaces sit on the ground floor, so plenary, breakouts and catering can stay on one level. The Grand Ballroom takes the plenary or the dinner, and Coogee divides into three for breakouts.

Accommodation

198 rooms and suites, most with a private balcony and an ocean view. Published room categories run from 25 square metres for a classic room to 47 for an ocean front king.

Where these figures come from, and why a dash is not a zero

A dash means IHG publishes no figure for that setup. It does not mean the room cannot be set that way, only that we will not print a number the venue has not published.

Every figure is read from IHG’s own meetings and events page, checked 22 September 2026. Never estimated, never taken from a directory.

IHG’s meetings page gives each room a single guest figure without naming a setup, and we publish it as that. The Grand Ballroom’s theatre and banquet figures come from the hotel’s own events page.

Bigger rooms in Sydney

The Grand Ballroom tops out at 300 theatre, so a larger plenary moves inland to Randwick or into the city. Each figure below is read from that venue’s own published material. This is not a survey of the whole Sydney market, only the rooms we checked to make sure nothing on this page overstates the building.

Recent changes

It is the former Crowne Plaza Coogee Beach. Same building at 242 Arden Street, refurbished and reflagged as an InterContinental. It took its first guests in December 2025, with the pool deck, spa and club lounge following in 2026. Capacity figures in older Crowne Plaza material predate the refurbishment.

Questions organisers ask

What size event can it hold?

The Grand Ballroom is pillar free with a high ceiling and takes 300 theatre or 260 for a banquet. The hotel lists a 10 metre LED wall in the room. Below it, Centennial takes 180 guests and Coogee, which divides into three, takes 169.

How many event spaces are there?

Seven. Six are on the ground floor: the Grand Ballroom, Centennial, Coogee, Clovelly, Bronte and Wylie’s Boardroom. Malabar, a 46 square metre room for eight, is on the lower ground floor.

Is it the old Crowne Plaza Coogee Beach?

Yes. The same beachfront building on Arden Street was refurbished and reopened as an InterContinental, taking its first guests in December 2025, with the pool deck, spa and club lounge following in 2026.

How far is it from the city?

The hotel puts it about 25 minutes from the Sydney CBD. It sits across the road from Coogee Beach.

Does it suit a residential conference?

Yes. It has 198 rooms and suites, most with a balcony and an ocean view, so a meeting of up to a few hundred can sleep, meet and eat in one building by the beach.

Sources, photography and how we work

Capacities read from the venue’s own published material on 22 September 2026. Comparison figures read from each named venue’s own published material on the same date.

We do not see every room on every visit. Where we were not in a room, its figures come from the venue's own chart rather than from us. We do not rate or score venues and we do not publish rates.

Our service is free to you. We are independent of every venue we put forward, no venue is favoured, and your interests come first.
