Inspected by CVBS

A 791 room Westin on the beach in the middle of Waikiki, open since March 1901. Its largest room is The Ballroom, 403 square metres with a 5.1 metre ceiling, for 275 theatre or 260 at banquet. It divides in two, and The Parlor, a Board Room and a roof garden sit alongside it, with a lawn, two lanais and the hotel’s own beach outdoors.

It reaches shortlists for the setting rather than the size. It suits an incentive or a conference of a few hundred that wants the whole group sleeping on site, with the welcome drinks and the closing dinner on the lawn or the sand.

What it suits

Good for

  • Incentive programs that want a heritage beachfront hotel in the middle of Waikiki
  • Conferences of up to 275 theatre style with every delegate sleeping on site
  • Gala dinners of up to 260 in the ballroom, or 200 outdoors on the Diamond Lawn
  • Welcome functions of up to 250 on the lawn or 150 on the beach
  • Board meetings and leadership retreats of 30 to 60

Look elsewhere for

  • A plenary above 275 theatre or a dinner above 260 indoors, which needs a larger ballroom
  • Exhibitions or trade floors
  • Several concurrent breakouts above 60, since only the ballroom halves and The Parlor go beyond that

The event floor

A ballroom that divides in two with its own foyer, a second room of 140 square metres, a Board Room and a roof garden, plus a lawn, a terrace, two lanais and the beach outdoors.

Accommodation

791 rooms across three wings: the original Banyan Wing of 1901, the Surfrider Wing and the Tower Wing, all renovated between 2025 and 2026. The redesigned Tower Wing rooms have lanais, and the hotel also has an oceanfront spa.

Where these figures come from, and why a dash is not a zero

A dash means Marriott publishes no figure for that setup. It does not mean the room cannot be set that way, only that we will not print a number the venue has not published.

Every figure is read from Marriott’s events page and capacity chart for the hotel, checked 22 September 2026. Never estimated, never taken from a directory.

The hotel announced a new oceanfront event space on the ground floor of the Tower Wing in May 2026. It is not on the capacity chart yet, so it is not in the table.

Bigger rooms in Honolulu

The Ballroom seats 260 for dinner, so a larger dinner or a plenary in the thousands moves to one of these, all within Waikiki or a short drive of it. Each figure below is read from that venue’s own published material. This is not a survey of the whole Honolulu market, only the rooms we checked to make sure nothing on this page overstates the building.

Recent changes

The whole hotel has been renewed. In May 2026 the hotel announced the end of a renovation covering all 791 rooms across its three wings. The Banyan Wing, built in 1901, finished in early winter 2025, the Tower Wing rooms in 2025, and the Surfrider Wing last, in 2026.

The Diamond Wing is now the Surfrider Wing. The former Diamond Wing has taken back the Surfrider name, after its history as a separate hotel that opened in 1952. Older material may still call it the Diamond Wing.

The lobby has reopened. The historic lobby reopened on 3 July 2025 after a refresh that kept its Victorian columns, crown moulding and original wood floors.

There is a new event space. The May 2026 announcement adds an oceanfront event space on the ground floor of the Tower Wing, for receptions, meetings and beachfront functions.

Questions organisers ask

What size conference can it hold?

Up to 275 theatre style or 260 at banquet in The Ballroom, a 403 square metre room with a 5.1 metre ceiling, by Marriott’s capacity chart. It divides into two halves of 130 theatre or 100 banquet each, and its foyer takes 150 for a reception.

What else is there besides the ballroom?

The Parlor, 140 square metres, for 130 theatre or 90 banquet, a Board Room for 60 theatre, and a roof garden and terrace for 50. Outdoors, the Diamond Lawn takes 250 for a reception or 200 at banquet, and the hotel’s own stretch of Waikiki Beach takes 150 for a reception.

How many guest rooms does it have?

791, across three wings: the original 1901 Banyan Wing, the Surfrider Wing and the Tower Wing. All three were renovated between 2025 and 2026, so a conference that fills the ballroom can sleep every delegate on site with rooms to spare.

Where is it?

At 2365 Kalākaua Avenue, on the beach in the middle of Waikiki, Honolulu.

Who does it suit?

An incentive program, a leadership retreat or a conference of up to about 260 seated that wants a heritage beachfront hotel with every delegate under one roof, and a welcome function or dinner on the lawn or the sand.

Capacities read from the venue’s own published material on 22 September 2026. Comparison figures read from each named venue’s own published material on the same date.

We do not see every room on every visit. Where we were not in a room, its figures come from the venue's own chart rather than from us. We do not rate or score venues and we do not publish rates.

Our service is free to you. We are independent of every venue we put forward, no venue is favoured, and your interests come first.
