Inspected by CVBS

A 1,636 room Sheraton on the beach in Waikiki, with 19 event rooms on its meeting level. Its largest room is the Hawaii Ballroom, 2,453 square metres and pillarless, for 3,700 theatre or 2,460 at banquet. It divides into four, and the Honolulu Suite, five mid-sized rooms and six breakouts sit alongside it, with an oceanfront infinity pool deck for 1,800 outdoors.

It reaches shortlists for scale on the sand. It is one of very few beachfront hotels anywhere that can seat a plenary in the thousands and sleep the whole conference in the same building.

What it suits

Good for

  • Conferences and sales kick-offs of up to 3,700 theatre style with every delegate sleeping on site
  • Gala dinners of up to 2,460 in the Hawaii Ballroom
  • Welcome functions of up to 1,800 on the oceanfront pool deck
  • Programs that need a plenary plus several breakouts of 100 or more at once
  • Incentive groups that want a large beachfront resort in the middle of Waikiki

Look elsewhere for

  • A banquet above 2,460, which needs a larger ballroom
  • A large exhibition or trade floor alongside the plenary, which belongs at the convention centre
  • Small groups wanting a boutique or heritage feel

The event floor

A pillarless ballroom that divides into four with its own 758 square metre foyer, the Honolulu Suite, five rooms for 120 theatre and six breakouts for 50, plus two outdoor pool spaces.

Accommodation

1,636 rooms and suites, 130 of them ocean view or oceanfront suites, all renovated by 2023. Marriott says 82 per cent of rooms look at the ocean.

Where these figures come from, and why a dash is not a zero

A dash means Marriott publishes no figure for that setup. It does not mean the room cannot be set that way, only that we will not print a number the venue has not published.

Every figure is read from Marriott’s events page and capacity chart for the hotel, checked 22 September 2026. Never estimated, never taken from a directory.

Marriott’s events page gives 75,070 square feet of event space in total, and the hotel’s overview page gives 42,720 square feet for the second floor meeting level. The table uses the capacity chart, room by room.

Bigger rooms in Honolulu

The Hawaii Ballroom takes 3,700 theatre or 2,460 at dinner, so only two rooms in Honolulu go larger, one on banquet numbers and one on floor area. Both were read on 22 September 2026. Each figure below is read from that venue’s own published material. This is not a survey of the whole Honolulu market, only the rooms we checked to make sure nothing on this page overstates the building.

Recent changes

A new oceanfront restaurant is on the way. A new ground level restaurant beside the infinity pool is due to open later in 2026. While it is built, breakfast is served in the 30th floor lounge.

The whole hotel has been renewed. A multi-year renovation of every guest room, the lobby, the function space and the retail level was completed in 2023.

The ballroom level was refitted before that. The Hawaii Ballroom and banquet spaces had new custom carpet, paint, furniture and banquet chairs in 2017. The carpet is the one in our photographs.

Questions organisers ask

What size conference can it hold?

Up to 3,700 theatre style or 2,460 at banquet in the Hawaii Ballroom, a pillarless room of 2,453 square metres, by Marriott’s capacity chart. It divides into four rooms, three of them for 900 theatre each under a 7.0 metre ceiling, and its foyer takes 1,000 for a reception.

What else is there besides the ballroom?

The Honolulu Suite, 437 square metres, for 300 theatre or 450 banquet, five rooms of around 100 to 116 square metres for 120 theatre each, and six breakout rooms for 50 each. Outdoors, the oceanfront infinity pool deck takes 1,800 for a reception or 1,000 at banquet, and the family pool lawn 800 for a reception.

How many guest rooms does it have?

1,636 rooms and suites, including 130 ocean view and oceanfront suites. Marriott says 82 per cent of rooms have ocean views, and every room was renovated in a multi-year program completed in 2023.

Where is it?

At 2255 Kalākaua Avenue, on the beach in Waikiki, Honolulu.

Who does it suit?

A large conference, a sales kick-off or an incentive of a few thousand that wants the plenary, the gala dinner and every delegate in one beachfront building, with a welcome function on the pool deck.

Sources, photography and how we work

Capacities read from the venue’s own published material on 22 September 2026. Comparison figures read from each named venue’s own published material on the same date.

We do not see every room on every visit. Where we were not in a room, its figures come from the venue's own chart rather than from us. We do not rate or score venues and we do not publish rates.

Our service is free to you. We are independent of every venue we put forward, no venue is favoured, and your interests come first.
