Inspected by CVBS
A 453 room luxury hotel on the beach at the western end of Waikiki. Its largest room is the Ballroom, 399 square metres and pillarless under a 5.2 metre ceiling, for 500 theatre or 300 at banquet. It divides in two, and the Hau Terrace with its oceanfront lanai, the Garden Terrace, two meeting rooms and a boardroom sit alongside it, with a courtyard for 600 outdoors.
It reaches shortlists for the standard of the hotel rather than the size. It suits an incentive or a conference of a few hundred that wants every delegate sleeping on site, with the gala dinner on the lanai looking over the water to Diamond Head.
What it suits
Good for
- Incentive programs and leadership retreats that want a luxury beachfront hotel in Waikiki
- Conferences of up to 500 theatre style with every delegate sleeping on site
- Gala dinners of up to 300 in the Ballroom or on the oceanfront Hau Lanai
- Welcome receptions of up to 600 in the Courtyard
- Board meetings of up to 14, and breakout days in the Kalia and Kiawe rooms
Look elsewhere for
- A dinner above 300, which needs a larger ballroom
- Exhibitions or trade floors
- Several large breakouts at once, since beyond the Ballroom only two rooms seat more than 90 theatre style
The event floor
A pillarless ballroom that divides in two, the Hau Terrace with its oceanfront lanai, the Garden Terrace, two meeting rooms that combine and a boardroom, plus a courtyard outdoors.
Accommodation
453 rooms and suites across the hotel’s buildings, most with ocean views and every suite with a private balcony, all updated in the refit before the October 2021 reopening. The hotel’s spa was rebuilt in 2024.
If you need the beds without the ballroom, that is a normal brief and we run it on its own. See group accommodation for how a room block is held, and corporate accommodation for an ongoing rate program.
The rest of the building
Restaurants, bars and public areas.

Where these figures come from, and why a dash is not a zero
A dash means Halekulani publishes no figure for that setup. It does not mean the room cannot be set that way, only that we will not print a number the venue has not published.
Every figure is read from the hotel’s own function space capacity chart, checked 22 September 2026. Never estimated, never taken from a directory.
The hotel’s meetings page gives the Hau Lanai’s 300 as a cocktail reception figure, and its capacity chart gives the same 300 as a banquet figure. The table uses the chart.
The meetings page also lists a private room in the hotel’s lounge bar for up to 50 and a small lawn for 20. Neither is on the capacity chart, so neither is in the table.
The building
Bigger rooms in Honolulu
The Ballroom seats 300 for dinner, so a larger dinner or a plenary in the thousands moves to one of these, all in Waikiki. All three were read on 22 September 2026. Each figure below is read from that venue’s own published material. This is not a survey of the whole Honolulu market, only the rooms we checked to make sure nothing on this page overstates the building.
| Halekulani, Ballroom | 500 theatre, 300 banquet |
|---|---|
| Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort, Hawaii Ballroom | 2,453 sqm, 3,700 theatre, 2,460 banquet |
| Hilton Hawaiian Village, Coral Ballroom | 2,513 sqm, 3,700 theatre, 2,610 banquet |
| Hawaiʻi Convention Center, Kalākaua Ballroom | About 3,250 sqm, divides into thirds |
Recent changes
The spa has been rebuilt. The hotel’s spa reopened on 1 August 2024 after a redesign, with three new spa suites, a salon, a boutique and five more treatment rooms.
The hotel reopened after a full refit. The hotel closed for more than a year and reopened on 1 October 2021. All 453 rooms and suites were updated, along with the public spaces, the porte cochere, the grounds and the beachfront restaurant.
The capacity chart predates the reopening. The chart the table is read from was published in 2021. We confirm the figures with the hotel before they reach a shortlist.

Sources, photography and how we work
Capacities read from the venue’s own published material on 22 September 2026. Comparison figures read from each named venue’s own published material on the same date.
We do not see every room on every visit. Where we were not in a room, its figures come from the venue's own chart rather than from us. We do not rate or score venues and we do not publish rates.
Our service is free to you. We are independent of every venue we put forward, no venue is favoured, and your interests come first.
